Adopting 100G transceivers not only accelerates data flow throughout your Data Center or Enterprise, but also provides CAPEX, OPEX and time savings.

Finisar offers a complete suite of transceivers to enable Data Centers to upgrade to 40G and 100G data rates using existing multimode fibre infrastructure and is the only company in the market with all 100G form factors: CFP, CFP2, CFP4 & QSFP28 (QSFP28 can be used in 40G ports as well as 100G ports).

While the CFP MSA states that power dissipation is not to be greater than 6W, 12W and 24W for CFP, CFP2 and CFP4 respectively, Finisar’s 100G transceivers are greatly below these thresholds (up to 86% lower), meaning they have the lowest power consumption in the market. This means that Data Centers and Enterprises can save money and more easily meet ‘Green IT’ targets and legislation. Finisar also supports 100 Gigabit Ethernet and 100 Gigabit OTU4*.

Virtualization, switching and routing and high-performance computing environments require higher network speeds in the Data Center and Enterprise. Internet Exchanges, MSO peering points and high-bandwidth applications such as video streaming applications also require high data rates. These are some of the factors driving the need for a migration to 40G and 100G interfaces as 1 and 10G cannot meet the needs of these bandwidth-hungry applications.

While 100G was announced as early as 2009, the adoption of 100G transceivers and switches is only set to gain momentum in Q4 2015/Q1 2016, with Infonetics1 predicting that 100G will account for 95% of the telecom transceiver transmission capacity by 2019, as the adoption of 10G begins to slow significantly and 40G begins to level out. In addition, the commencement of low cost 100G silicon production is set to accelerate QSFP28 shipments and PAM, DSP, FEC, linear optics and highly integrated optical solutions (2.5D, 3D silicon photonics) will also drive the uptake of 100G in 2016.
